| Summary/abstract: | - Pre-incident planning is an important tool that can be utilized to assist fire departments in reducing risks to firefighters and their communities. The problem is the Beach Park Fire Department (BPFD) does not have a pre-incident planning program. Using the descriptive research method, the purpose was to identify, (a) what content is needed for a pre-incident planning program, (b) what standards are recommended for guidance of a successful pre-incident planning program, and (c) what standard operating procedures (SOP's) are needed for a pre-incident planning program. Procedures included a literature review, interviews, surveys and a review of other fire departments. The results indicate the inherent value of pre-incident planning program. The recommendation is to establish a pre-incident planning program.
